The goal is to present the state of justification of the design of a new 4th generation head commercial power unit with BN-1200M reactor at the Beloyarsk NPP site for the implementation of a two-component nuclear power system with a closed nuclear fuel cycle. The project BN-1200M use reference technical solutions that have shown themselves well during the operation of power units BN-600 and BN-800, and new technical solutions for equipment and systems of the reactor plant. For new technical solutions, a calculated and experimental justification are carried out of the core design, the performance of mixed uranium-plutonium fuel, the emergency heat removal system and its elements, main circulation pumps, cold traps, steam generator, refueling system elements, as well as operational safety, new structural materials, organization of the nuclear fuel cycle, etc. R&D results made it possible to justify new technical solutions, increase the level of safety, reliability and efficiency in relation to predecessor projects and promising energy sources, ensure the satisfaction of the system requirements for nuclear energy sources. The results of the work carried out laid the foundation for the commercial development of the technology of fast sodium reactor plants and the readiness of the design of the head power unit with the BN-1200M reactor plant for implementation as part of power unit No. 5 at the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant site.
